Beita Version #3 | Head Reads, Head Erases EmmOhm Collective
EmmOhm Collective | Ilan Barkani, Eyal Nahtomi, Rotem Tripman, Dean Bar
Curator: Lital Marcus Morin
Opening: Tuesday | 16.7.26 | 19:00
The EmmOhm Collective operates at the intersection of art, sound, materiality, and community. Formed through the meeting of four multidisciplinary artists, the collective is driven by a shared interest in experimental art: practices that question the boundaries of artistic media while seeking to expand, unravel, and blur them.
The collective’s name evokes a space of action that unfolds between the “emm”, the sound of hesitation, stammering, and thought before it takes shape; and the “om”, a spiritual, almost meditative resonance of a sustained frequency. Between them also lies the ohm, the unit of electrical resistance. In an electrical circuit, resistance affects the way current flows: it regulates, delays, and transforms it.
From within this conceptual space emerges the collective’s current project: an exhibition centered on the second edition of its independent label, a new compilation of sound works and music by artists from across Israel.
The compilation unfolds throughout the gallery in the form of an imagined record store, adopting the language of a commercial retail space while simultaneously disrupting the mechanisms through which music becomes a consumer product. The works are available for listening only within the exhibition itself, in the designated time and place, requiring the listener’s physical presence and attention. Album covers were created especially for each individual work.
Facing the record store is a space modeled after a rehearsal room, hosting live performances and sound events throughout the exhibition period. Between the two spaces stands the “Square”, a sculptural structure assembled from the accumulated materials of thought, construction, and sound left behind through the ongoing activity within the gallery.
The exhibition took shape during wartime, within a reality in which gathering and closeness can no longer be taken for granted. From this context, it proposes both a conceptual and physical space where members of a creative community can come together, listen, and be present for one another.
Visitors are invited to browse through the albums, take their time, choose a disc, and move to one of the listening stations.
You are welcome to listen, pause, return, and begin again. We recommend lingering for a moment after the sound comes to an end.
Each listening rewrites what has already been inscribed. Every ending makes room for whatever may be heard next.

The exhibition is presented as part of Beita Version, an incubator program for emerging artist collectives, now in its third year. The program seeks to support groups of artists working collaboratively and contributing to the development of the city’s contemporary art scene.
